Henry Shines in Oregon Twilight - GoDucks.comPublished by
EUGENE – University of Oregon redshirt senior Britney Henry paced the Duck track and field teams in her final regular season home appearance – the Oregon Twilight – staged Saturday at the UO’s historic Hayward Field. The All-American from Spokane, Wash., won the hammer throw against an all-star field thanks to a meet record and season best on her second throw Saturday (221-7). Overall on her six throw series, she added marks of 216-7, 213-5 and 219-4 on her first, third and fourth throws – all in the neighborhood of her previous season best of 218-2 that ranked her 10th in the U.S. this season – then fouled her fifth and sixth attempts. Four other post-collegiate throwers ranked top-15 nationally this season followed Henry in Saturday’s standings – Loree Smith of the New York Athletic Club (second, season best 221-5), Bethany Hart (third, 220-6), Jen Leatherman (fourth, 218-4) and Cari Soong (sixth, 196-3). Former Duck and Team XO member Brittany Hinchcliffe added fifth place with a season best (209-9). The women’s javelin was equally national caliber as American record holder and four-time U.S. champion Kim Kreiner retook the Hayward Field record with her winning throw (189-7) and beat the former stadium mark held by Sarah Malone (186-10, 2005), while Malone also held the former meet record (174-0, 2001).
