Football 60, Civil War 100 at Saturday's Twilight Meet
Tuesday, May 4, 4:45 p.m. PDT

No word yet on whether or not Coach Kelly will be on hand to ceremonially announce “Gentlemen, tie your Nikes!” but at least seven of his charges will be taking to the track at Historic Hayward Field Saturday to participate in a Football-only 60-meter dash at the Oregon Twilight meet.

Remene Alston Jr., D.J. Davis, Tyrell Irvin, Dior Mathis, Eddie Pleasant, Jide Shinaba and Brandon Williams will toe the starting line in front of the west grandstand with the prize of bragging rights for the rest of the football offseason awaiting the winner.

But wait, there’s more! The Football 60 will be an appetizer for a Civil War 100 Meters featuring dual-sport student-athletes from Oregon and Oregon State. The Civil War lineup will pit UO’s LaMichael James, Kenjon Barner and Talmadge Jackson III in a race against OSU’s Jacquizz Rodgers, James Rodgers, Marcus Wheaton, Rashaad Reynolds and Keynan Parker.

The Ducks and Beavers will also each have an entrant in the 4x100 relay.

The meet begins at 5 p.m. with the 4x100 tentatively scheduled for 6 p.m. The Football 60 will go off around 6:30 and the Civil War 100 will take flight at approximately 7:00.

UPDATE FROM GREG WALKER AT THE UNIVERSITY OF OREGON:

Hey all,Wanted to let you know that I learned late last night
that Oregon State scratched most of the guys they had entered in the
Twilight Meet this Saturday.
I believe they will still have a high jumper. Accepted entries will be
posted later today.Obviously, that means that the Civil War 100
won't happen, as least not this weekend, which is too bad, as it would
have been fun. Hopefully we will still see that sooner than later.I
do want to be extremely clear that the OSU players DID NOT back out of
the meet; in fact most of them didn't even know they had been entered.
My guess is that Kelly
Sullivan
(OSU's women's coach) entered them in the meet a long
time ago just in case those guys ended up running. And Kelly certainly
was not trying to trick anyone with the entries; entering the football
guys in the meet was a prudent administrative procedure. As many of you
can attest, it is much easier to enter someone in a meet and then later
scratch them, than to try and get someone in at the last minute.I
apologize for any false excitement or reports I might have fueled. Please
call/e-mail if you have any questions. Thanks,Greg
